It’s not every day you get to say that you climbed 70 stories up the tallest building in Dallas. You wouldn’t think that a group of accountants would be able to tackle the 1,540 steps challenge, but our team proved the world wrong in order to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. With their efforts Rolland’s accounting team is truly an example of what team work, determination and a huge heart can drive you to do.
The LLS is the largest voluntary health organization that has dedicated itself to funding research. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) organized its 7th annual Bid D Climb on January 31st, 2016. With the tag line Climb, Conquer, Cure the goal of this event is to raise 300K+ to reach their goal: A world without blood cancers.
Rolland’s culture revolves around giving. We have supported for many years the Ronald McDonald House by cooking dinner for their guests. Every year we also raise funds for the North Texas Food Bank. This year we decided to add to our philanthropic endeavors and added the LLS to our yearly charity contribution list.
In deciding to take on the challenge, each individual on the team had their own personal reasoning behind their efforts. Team member TC Dominguez had one special motivation in mind, her nephew. TC’s nephew suffers from leukemia and she wanted to take on the challenge to help in finding a cure for those like her nephew who are plagued with the daily struggles of leukemia.
After the event TC stated, “When I first started the climb, I was thinking ‘What did I get myself into?’ I’m the oldest out of the group and probably in the worst shape. But there were so many people encouraging me to keep going. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my coworkers but especially Mario. Our plan was to quit at the half climb on the 54th floor but we got a call from Farrah and hearing her say ‘I promise it’s going to be easier once you get passed the 54th floor’. She was right.” TC completed the challenge and honored her nephew.
Viki, our accounting manager, is a fitness junkie and she smoked the challenge by completing it in 27 minutes. Right after her, Ms. Farrah Marshall completed the challenge and proceeded to direct her efforts to motivating the rest of team through their journey. Eliana White our HR Director also joined the team and finished strong. TC and Mario stuck together the entire way. They made great pace and had a blast along the way and finished as a unit.
Tanya Gould our CFO supported the team from the ground and had awesome things to say. “They truly stuck together. It was awesome to see the amount of support they gave each other. It was very rewarding to see them come down. I am very proud of them”
This team is a true representation of Rolland’s culture, more than just co-workers they are a tight unified group, a family and that is what we pride ourselves in.
